Definition of a characteristic with specifications for the content-related meaning (semantics) and the technical and organizational application
Identification
Information on the identification of the data record is stored in this info area.
| Property | Description |
| System name | The internal system name is reused in many places in the system to identify dynamic features. Changes to the system name can mean that, for example, individual reports with the characteristic no longer work. |
| Feature Structure | Select the outline to which the feature should belong here. Outlines can be stored centrally, eTASK supports a 3-level outline. This entry is not necessary if the characteristic is to be displayed in a static info area within the form. |
| Hierarchy code | The hierarchy code of a characteristic is calculated automatically by the system. It is made up of the hierarchy code of the selected characteristic structure and the code of the characteristic itself. The hierarchy code can help you to uniquely identify characteristics. |
| Code | Enter the short name for this feature here. |
| Designation | Enter the long name for the feature here. This text is used to display the feature in the forms. |
| Data type | Selection of the data type for the characteristic. Specifies whether the characteristic is a text or a number, for example. |
| Definition | The definition describes the meaning of the feature and must be maintained by the ProductOwner of the feature. |
| Internal ID (Data ID) | Display of the internal ID of a feature |
Responsibility
The responsibility for the feature is defined here.
| Property | Description |
| Owner / responsible person | Select the person who is responsible for defining and maintaining the feature, not for the content of the feature values in the individual forms. |
Settings
System-specific settings for the feature are made here: availability, visibility and activity.
| Property | Description |
| Display in form | Here you define whether the feature should be visible in the form or not. |
| Wrap long content | Define here whether texts or selection fields that are entered in the feature are wrapped during display and thus lead to multi-line entries. |
| Empty when copying | Use this option to define whether the value of a characteristic is also copied when the data record is copied or whether the characteristic does not contain a value after copying. Use this to avoid copying fields that contain unique values, such as serial numbers, in order to prevent errors during data maintenance. |
| Canceled | This is where you specify whether a feature has been discontinued and should no longer be available in the future. A discontinued feature will receive a note indicating this fact. Discontinuing a feature is the first step towards deleting it later. You should then make it invisible and then delete it if no one has lodged a complaint in the meantime. |
| Machinable | Specify here whether the characteristic can be edited or whether the characteristic value in the form is only displayed in read access. |
Settings for number fields
In this area, technical and functional configurations can be set up for the feature with the data type Number.
| Property | Description |
| Unit of measurement | Specify the unit of measurement for a property of the data type "Number" here. |
Settings for text fields
This group contains settings for configuring and formatting text fields in the user interface. This includes options such as character length, font, text alignment and special input rules.
| Property | Description |
| is an e-mail | With this setting, you can specify whether only e-mail addresses may be entered in the "Text" type feature. This setting inserts an additional "letter" symbol next to the feature, which is used to immediately start an e-mail to the entered address. To do this, users must have set up a standard application for e-mails in their operating system. |
| is a URL | Specify whether the content of this feature of type "Text" is a URL. Only values whose formatting corresponds to a URL can be entered in the feature. A link icon is also displayed next to the field, which users can use to go directly to the target of the URL. |
| Text length | Specify here how long texts users are allowed to enter in this text field. |
Settings for selection fields
If the feature is of the "Selection" data type, you can define more precisely here how the selection field should be filled.
| Property | Description |
| Selection values from free catalog | If a free catalog provides the selection values, you can select the corresponding catalog here. Also make sure that the value "Selection values from free catalog" is selected for "Definition selection field". |
| Selection value from static catalog | If you want to provide selection values that are stored in a static catalog of eTASK, e.g. cost centers or federal states, then select the corresponding table here. Also make sure that the value "Selection values from static catalog" is selected for "Definition selection field". |
| Definition of selection field | If the feature you are creating is of the selection field type, select here which source you would like to use for the selection values. Select "Selection values from list on feature" if you want to define the values for the selection list in the subsequent "Selection values list" area directly in the feature. If the values are to come from a static catalog in the eTASK-FM portal, e.g. the cost centers or federal states, then select "Selection values from static catalog" and fill in the following field "Selection of static catalog". If you want to use a free catalog instead, select "Selection values from free catalog" and fill in the following field "Selection values from free catalog". |
Settings for date fields
If the data type is a date, you can make further configurations for this field here.
| Property | Description |
| Display time only | With this selection, you can specify whether the date should be hidden in a date field and only the time should be displayed. Requires the selection "Show time" in the previous field. |
| Show time | Specify here whether not only the date value but also the time should be displayed for this feature. |
| Increment in minutes | Enter or select here which time values you want to allow. Set the increment to 1 if you want to allow every minute value between the earliest and latest time, e.g. 13:21, 13:22, 13:23 etc. Select 5 if you only want to enter values in 5-minute increments, e.g. 13:05, 13:10, 13:15 etc. Common numbers are 1, 5, 15, 30 and 60. |
| Time from (HH:MM) | Enter the earliest time that can be entered here. |
| Time until (HH:MM) | Enter the latest time that can be entered here. |
List of selection values
If the data type "Selection field" and the definition selection field "Selection values from list on characteristic" have been selected, the defined selection values are displayed in this list.
