Business classes, when used in conjunction with business objects, can help simplify and organize data management using the client function. If customers consider which data areas in their portal belong together before setting up clients, these can be grouped together and moved to a separate client.
Example: For instance, a vehicle that is no longer part of the fleet could be moved to an archive client created specifically for this purpose. If business objects (such as contracts, claims, tires, and events) have previously been assigned to the “Vehicle” business class, they are transferred to the client when the vehicle is moved.
Other use cases could include:
Managing employee departures (limiting the view of the employee list to active employees)
Archiving lease agreements with the desired associated data
Archiving companies along with associated lease agreements and other data
Basic control of data visibility across different clients (initial structured transfer of data)
Prerequisites
Administrator rights
The system parameter for client management is enabled; additional clients are available (See: 📄 Logische Mandantenverwaltung aktivieren IC2694 )
Procedure in the FM Portal
Path to starting point: System Settings - Portal Options - Portal Configuration (Metadata) - Metadata - Classes - Business Classes
Note: These are initially provided by an eTASK update and are set to "Active" and "Client directly editable" by default. This setting only becomes active once client management is enabled. Customers can customize this function according to their preferences.
Open the desired business class, e.g., Vehicles. Use the search function to do so.
Ensure that the checkboxes for "Active?" and "Client can edit directly" are selected.
Click Save in the toolbar.
In the "Linked Business Objects" section, assign the business objects that must belong to the business class and should also be moved by checking the corresponding boxes.

In our example, this setting has the following effect:
In the vehicle form, the rights group for the client (still the default client here) sees the Change Client button. This allows the vehicle to be moved.
This can also be done via the bulk update in the Vehicles table.
If you now move this vehicle to another client, the vehicle data that was previously defined will also be moved—in this example, this includes the tires, among other things.
